STAND UP & FIGHT

On Sunday, November 14th 2010, forty Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy students, friends and family made the three-hour trip from the San Francisco Bay Area to Fresno, California.  Sihing Guilherme Faria and Nori Lim were making their ring debut at the PAK ! Stand up and Fight event.  It was a packed house and a very well run event under the IKF, John Cho, Jr. Correa and Johnny Davis.

Training for over three months to prepare, Guilherme came in perfect condition.  He took control of his opponent in the first round, outscoring his opponent with sidekicks and punches.  His opponent even received a point deduction in the round.  The second round saw much of the same with sidekicks and punches, a few sow choy’s and some great roundhouse kicks.  The third round came in a bit more even as both fighters began to slow the pace.  By the end it seemed clear that Guilherme was the victor, but as sometimes happens in competitions, when the scores came in, one judge had it for Guilherme, one judge for his opponent, and one judge had it even.  It was a confusing majority draw where no winner was declared, but to the Tat Wong contingency Guilherme was definitely the winner that day.

Fighting in the bantamweight division, or under 121 pounds, Nori Lim also stepped into the ring for the 1st time.  Having done a few tournaments, Nori had a few good fights but nothing at this level.  Nori’s dedication to her training for this fight over the past few months left her feeling confident and ready to go.  She came into the fight with an incredible amount of energy, hitting her opponent nearly non-stop for the first round.  She punched and kicked her opponent from rope to rope and corner to corner.  The second round saw her opponent with a bit of a new found purpose but Nori continued to dominate and it wasn’t until the third round that the pace began to even out.  Nori’s opponent was a very tough woman, but the judges all saw exactly what we did, a unanimous decision for Nori!

Thanks to the guidance of Master Tat-Mau Wong and their coaches & corners, Sifu Jeff Chow, Sifu David Law & Sihing Brandon Chew, it was a great outing for the Tat Wong fight team and the Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy family.  We can’t wait to do it again!
