KUNG FU PANDA 2 & TAT WONG KUNG FU TEAM UP
‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ has been a box office hit and Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy has been a huge part of its San Francisco kick-off.
After working with Paramount Pictures & Dreamworks in 2008 for the release of the original ‘Kung Fu Panda’ we were on the top of their list to help them promote their newest ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’.
PO VISITS THE TAT WONG ACADEMY
First we were added to ‘Po’ the Kung Fu Panda’s live tour. On May 20th, after spending the day with San Francisco Giant Pablo Sandoval, nick-named the Kung Fu Panda, Po arrived at the Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy headquarters for a party.
The Academy was filled with Tat Wong students and neighborhood children awaiting his arrival. Po, who measures six feet tall and 120 inches around, made quite a scene when he came barreling down Clement Street in San Francisco’s Richmond District. When he entered the Academy all went silent at first and everyone’s mouth dropped open at the site of the huge panda. It was only a matter of moments before everyone was up and hugging Po.
Top students performed for Po and received certificates of ‘Awesomeness’ from the Kung Fu Panda. Then it was Po’s turn to shine as he received his official Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy Black Belt. KTSF TV Channel 26 was on hand to film this historic event.
After, the students had a meet & greet with Po with a chance to have their photos taken with the panda. The event ended with a Pizza Party provided by the ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ movie team.
TAT WONG CHAMPIONS PERFORM AT SNEAK PREVIEW
On May 24th, two days before the official release of ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ we performed at a special sneak-preview screening held at the Century Nine Theater in downtown San Francisco. Before the movie began, our performers from our Academies in San Francisco, West Portal and San Mateo performed in front of the movie screen. The audience went wild as they demonstrated powerful hand forms and sword, spear, staff and fighting forms.
PERFORMANCE AT DREAMWORKS FOR THE CREATORS OF ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’
May 26th was the release date for ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’. So, on that day, Dreamworks Animation in Redwood City, California held a grand celebration for their employees and families. They couldn’t forget our performance for them in 2008 so they were anxious to have us back again. The performance kicked off with a traditional Chinese Lion Dance and was followed by a wide variety of hand and weapon forms. Many of the forms featured techniques from the animals that appeared in the movie: Tiger, Crane, Praying Mantis, Snake and Monkey as well as the Choy Lay Fut Panther and Dragon.
It was a crazy few weeks preparing for Po’s visit and all our performances, but we were proud to be such an important part of this wonderful movie. And who better to officially represent the awesome ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ than the real-life, even more awesome…instructors and students of the Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy
