On September 16-18, 2011, Master Tat-Mau Wong and Master Nick Scrima hosted the 2nd Annual "Golden Gate" Chinese Martial Arts Championship.

Over 900 competitors of all ages from across North America and several countries came together for this tournament. The Peninsula Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency was filled to capacity with even more top competitors and masters than last year’s San Francisco championship!

The energy was high and full of excitement as spectators, fellow competitors and masters came together to cheer for their favorite athletes and watch some remarkable performances.
The championship began right on schedule with the Opening Ceremonies being lead by a traditional Chinese Lion dance which was guaranteed to bring good luck and success to the ICMAC.  A surprise at the opening was the beautifully emotional National Anthem played on the violin by fourteen year old Leah Leiner.  Leah, a 2nd degree black belt at the Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy later competed in the tournament.

Throughout the day all eight rings were filled with non-stop action as competitors of all ages and levels stepped up for their chance to go for the gold. The ICMAC & its competitors were fortunate and honored to have more than 100 top Officials and noted martial art VIPs in attendance to judge and ensure a fair and top quality competition.

Also as part of this year’s event, the ICMAC was proud to support the Asian American Donor Program. AADP is dedicated to increasing the availability of potential stem cells donors for patients with life threatening diseases curable by a stem cell transplant.  They were on site at the event to conduct a donor drive for their  ‘Be the Match Registry’. Master Tat- Mau Wong, host of the ICMAC says, “ Not only does an event like this help Chinese martial arts to develop and grow, but it provides a unique opportunity for AADP to reach out to the Asian population. Kung Fu is all about promoting health and AADP is about saving lives. Together I know that we can make a difference and we were happy to do what we can to support their cause.”

Following a full day of Saturday competition, the audience was treated to the evening Masters’ Showcase. Renowned masters of a wide variety martial arts styles wowed the audience with their amazing skills. Then on Sunday morning the competition concluded with Sparring, Push-Hands and Chi Sao.

The championship is fast becoming one of the premier events on the ICMAC Worldwide Circuit and we appreciate the support & goodwill of all our competitors, officials, VIPs & schools who came together in the spirit of ‘friendship through martial arts”.  We look forward to seeing you again next year!
