Continuous Sparring Rules – 2008 International Kung Fu QUEST - a part of Disney’s Martial Arts Festival


The judging procedures for this event are meant to help promote the quality of Chinese Martial Arts Light-Contact Free-Sparring, Spirit and Attitude, Superiority of Tactics, Application of Techniques (Offensive & Defensive), Endurance and healthy competition.

Weight Categories
4.1     48kg Category (Under ≤48kg)  (equal/under 106 lbs.) 
4.2     52kg Category (48kg≤52kg)    (107-115 lbs.)
4.3     56kg Category (52kg≤56kg)    (116-123 lbs.)
4.4     60kg Category (56kg≤60kg)    (124-132 lbs.)
4.5     65kg Category (60kg≤65kg)    (133-143 lbs.)
4.6     70kg Category (65kg≤70kg)    (144-154 lbs.)
4.7     75kg Category (70kg≤75kg)    (155-165 lbs.)
4.8     80kg Category (75kg≤80kg)    (166-176 lbs.)
4.9     85kg Category (80kg≤85kg)    (177-187 lbs.)
4.10   90kg Category (85kg≤90kg)    (188-198 lbs.)

Protective Equipment
Competitors are responsible for their own protective equipment. The following is a list of the mandatory and optional equipment.

MANDATORY: Head Protector, Mouthguard, Groin Cup (males), Safety Gloves, Foot Protection

Optional: Goggles, Chest Protector, Shin Protection


Competition Format: 
Time Limits:  All bouts will be 30 seconds. Fighting time and the clock will stop as dictated by the Referee.

● Best of 3 - 30 second rounds of continuous light-contact sparring. 

● A winner is declared by a majority vote by the Referee and two Judges for each 30-second round.

● Winner of the first two rounds wins the fight.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top 4 fighters in each weight division.

Break: A Break will be called by the Referee should any of the following events occur:

Warning: A penalty issued on majority vote for any of the following:

Caution: A non-penalty term recommended by any Judge, or called by the Referee.

Excessive Force: A head strike that results in bleeding, whipping of the head and/or neck, bruising or swelling of the face. Unreasonable force to the body, for example, a kick that moves an opponent from a stable or rooted stance to the floor or outside the ring.


Disqualification: The following results in the loss of a bout:

Legal Contact Areas:

Legal Non-Contact Target: Please note that these areas are legal for non-contact techniques only. Any contact to these areas could result in a Foul and possible Disqualification.
